Why the DS2416 uses the PCI bus, and not the ISA bus

The DS2416 is a PCI card because the PCI bus offers the superior data transfer rate necessary for the DS2416. The differences between ISA and PCI are shown below.

  ISA PCI
Maximum Clock Speed: Approximately 8 MHz Approximately 33 MHz
Maximum Data Transfer Rate: 8 Mbytes/sec. 132 Mbytes/sec.
Address Decoding: IRQ manually assigned IRQ automatically assigned
Data Width: 16 bit 32 bit
Address Width: 20 bit 32 bit

NOTE: The DS2416 is compatible with 66MHz PCI bus as the PCI 2.1 specification defines that all 66MHz devices and motherboards must be capable of dropping their performance to 33MHz.
