Why the DS2416 uses the PCI bus, and not the ISA bus
The DS2416 is a PCI card because the PCI bus offers the superior data transfer rate necessary for the DS2416. The differences between ISA and PCI are shown below.
| ISA | PCI | |
| Maximum Clock Speed: | Approximately 8 MHz | Approximately 33 MHz |
| Maximum Data Transfer Rate: | 8 Mbytes/sec. | 132 Mbytes/sec. |
| Address Decoding: | IRQ manually assigned | IRQ automatically assigned |
| Data Width: | 16 bit | 32 bit |
| Address Width: | 20 bit | 32 bit |
NOTE: The DS2416 is compatible with 66MHz PCI bus as the PCI 2.1 specification defines that all 66MHz devices and motherboards must be capable of dropping their performance to 33MHz.
