Creating a Custom Style based on a Built-In Style on a PSR730
Up to four User Styles can be created in the 'Style Recording' mode. Each User Style consist of five sections: Intro, Main A, Main B, Ending and Fill. The Intro, Main A, Main B and Ending sections are two measures in length. The Fill section is one measure in length. Each section has eight recording tracks, Rhythm Main, Rhythm Sub, Bass, Pad, Chord 1, Chord 2, Phrase 1, and Phrase 2. Recording ProcedureActivating the Metronome (Optional):
- 1) Press the 'MENU'
button until the indicator on the left side of the screen is pointing to 'OVERALL'2) Press the 'SUB MENU'
button until the top of the screen displays 'Metronome: Off'.3) Press the [+/YES] button to activate the Metronome.
Recording the Style: 1) Press the [STYLE] button.
2) Enter a number from 001 to 100 on the numeric keypad to select a Style (to use as a template ) that is most like (ie. has the same time signature, etc) as the Style to be created.
3) Press the [RECORD] button.
4) Press the [STYLE] button.
5) Press one of the [INTRO], [MAIN A], [MAIN B] or [ENDING] buttons to choose the section to record.
NOTE: Press the [MAIN A] button twice to select the 'Fill' section for recording.
6) Press one of the Track [1] - [8] buttons to select the Track to record.
NOTE: Select a blank Track to add a Track to this Style. If Rhythm Track 1 or 2 is selected, drums can be overdubbed onto the Track. Overdubbing is not permitted on Tracks 3 - 9, consequently, Tracks will first have to be erased and then new data can be recorded. See 'Erasing a Track.'
7) Assign a Voice to the selected Track.
- a) Press the [VOICE]
button.
b) Enter the desired Voice number on the numeric keypad.
c) Press the [STYLE] button.
TIP: To to practice before recording, press the [SYNC-START] button until the light is OFF.
9) Play a key or press the [START/STOP] button to begin recording. The recording will continue for a set amount of measures before it begins to loop.
NOTE: Track recordings must be played in the key of CMajor7. Only Tracks recorded in the key of CMajor7 will transpose properly once they are used as a Style in live play. This rule does not apply to the Rhythm Main and Rhythm Sub Tracks.
10) Press the [START/STOP] button when finished.
11) Repeat Steps 4 - 10 to record additional Sections/Tracks or go to the 'Editing Options' section to make corrections or erase a Track and start over.
12) Press the [RECORD] button to exit the 'Recording' mode when recording is finished.
Editing Options:
Drum Cancel:
This function can ONLY be used on Rhythm Tracks 1 or 2. It is used to erase a specific drum instrument from the Rhythm Pattern.
1) Press either the [1] or [2] button to select the Rhythm Track to edit.
2) Press the [START/STOP] button.
3) Press the 'SUB MENU'
button until the top of the screen displays 'Drum Cancel'.4) Press the key corresponding to the drum instrument to erase.
5) Press the [START/STOP] button when finished editing.
6) Press the [STYLE] button to return to the Main Menu.
Erasing a Track:
This function is used to erase the entire contents of a Track allowing the Track to be recorded over from scratch.
1) Press the 'SUB MENU'
button until the top of the screen displays 'Track Clear?'.2) Press the corresponding Track button for the Track to be cleared.
3) Press the [+/YES] button to clear the track.
4) Press the [STYLE] button to return to the Main Menu.
Quantizing:
This function will correct timing inaccuracies by aligning notes to the selected note value.
1) Press the 'SUB MENU'
button until the top of the screen displays 'Quantize?'.2) Press the [+/YES] button.
3) Press the [-/NO] or the [+/YES] button to choose the quantizing level.
TIP: Select a quantize level that is equal to or less than the smallest note value of the pattern. For example, to quantize a pattern that contains 1/4 notes and 1/8 notes, select a quantize level of 8 (4= quantize to nearest 1/4 note 8= quantize to nearest 1/8 note).
4) Press the 'SUB MENU'
button.5) Press the [+/YES] button.
6) Press the [START/STOP] button to hear the results.
7) Press the [+/YES] button to undo the Quantize, if desired.
8) Press the [STYLE] button to return to the Main Menu.
