Connecting a CS6X with a Computer or Hardware Sequencer

There are two types of connection options available when connecting an CS6X to a computer (using a software sequencer) or a hardware sequencer.

1) MIDI connections are found on virtually every hardware sequencer, but require an interface when used with a computer.

2) A TO HOST connection interfaces directly with a computer, but requires a special 'driver' for PC or 'OMS' software setup for Macintosh. Using MIDI connections:
    1) Connect the CS6X 'MIDI OUT' to the computer interface or sequencer 'MIDI IN'.

    2) Connect the computer interface or sequencer 'MIDI OUT' to the CS6X 'MIDI IN'.

    3) Set the CS6X 'HOST SELECT' switch on the rear panel to 'MIDI'.
Using the 'TO HOST' connection with a PC:
    1) Use a Yamaha 'CCIBM' cable to connect the CS6X 'TO HOST' connection to a Serial Port of a PC.

NOTE: This cable is available through Yamaha dealers or can be ordered directly from Yamaha Parts Department (888) 892-6242.

    2) Set the CS6X 'HOST SELECT' switch on the rear panel to 'PC-2'.

    3) Install the 'Yamaha CBX Driver' into the computer.

    4) Configure the sequencer software to utilize the Yamaha CBX Driver.
Using a 'TO HOST' connection with a Macintosh:
    1) Use a standard Macintosh Printer/Modem cable to connect the CS6X 'TO HOST' connection to the Printer/Modem Port of a Macintosh.

NOTE: If the Macintosh is one of the newer models with a 'USB' connection instead of a Printer/Modem Port, a USB-MIDI interface such as the Yamaha UX-256 can be used.

    2) Set the CS6X 'HOST SELECT' switch on the rear panel to 'Mac'.

    3) See the sequencing software manual for instructions on installing and setting up 'OMS' software with the Printer/Modem Port.
