Muting and Resetting a PLG100XG Plug-In Board in an S80
The Voices on the PLG100XG Board can only be selected from Performance Mode in Parts 17-32. When the PLG100XG Board Voices are selected for Parts 17-32, MIDI Receive Channels 1-16 are used. However, the Internal Voice Banks ALSO use MIDI Receive Channels 1-16 on Parts 1-16. Therefore, to hear an Internal Voice Part by itself, without triggering a PLG100XG Voice Part at the same time, the corresponding MIDI Receive Channel in Parts 17-32 must be turned OFF (muted). This can be accomplished via MIDI by sending the PLG100XG an 'XG OFF' message, which will turn all the PLG100XG Parts OFF at once. The message can be downloaded as a Standard MIDI File by clicking the link in the steps below. Another MIDI file ('GMXGrset.mid) which turns all the Parts back ON, and resets all other parameters on the board to the factory default, is also available below. This file is useful when a MIDI file without proper reset commands is played using the PLG100XG Board.
NOTE: The Parts can also be muted and un-muted manually on the instrument.
To send these messages to a PLG100XG Board, a MIDI sequencer (software or hardware), capable of transmitting system exclusive data is required. Additionally, the files can be sent from a SmartMedia Card in the '3.3V Card' slot of the S80.
TIP: It is recommended that both files be stored on a SmartMedia Card and kept with the keyboard. In this way, when a mute or reset is necessary, an external sequencer is no longer needed to play the files. These files can be played using the same method as pleaying a Song. Click here for 'Saving and Playing a Song using a SmartMedia Card on an S80'.
