Making an S80 Voice in Voice Mode Sound the Same in Performance Mode

Certain settings of a Voice are overridden when it is put into a Performance; the Performance and Part settings take precedence. These settings must be changed to match the settings of the original Voice, if the original sound is desired.

NOTE: Since all Parts of the Performance share the 'System Effects' (Reverb and Chorus) and only one Part uses the 'Insertion Effects', only one Part per Performance can use all the original Voice Mode settings. Click here for 'Applying Effects to a Performance on an S80'
Writing down original Voice settings: To make a Voice in Voice Mode sound the same in Performance Mode, the Voice Reverb Level, Chorus Level and use of Insertion Effects must be written down and manually entered into a desired Performance.

    1) Press the [VOICE] button.

    2) Select the desired Voice.

    3) Press the [EDIT] button.

    4) Press and hold the [SHIFT] button, then turn the (PAGE) knob until the cursor points to 'QED' at the top of the screen (Quick Edit).

    5) Release the [SHIFT] button, then turn the (PAGE) knob until 'QED Level' is displayed on the left side of the screen. Write down the 'RevSend' Level and the 'ChoSend' Level.

    6) Press and hold the [SHIFT] button, then turn the (PAGE) knob until the cursor points to 'OSC' at the bottom of the screen.

    7) Release the [SHIFT] button, then turn the (PAGE) knob until 'OSC Out' is displayed on the left side of the screen.

    8) Use the [A] - [D] 'BANK' buttons to display the 'InsEF' (Insertion Effect) settings for Elements 1 - 4 of the Voice.

      a) If all four Elements display 'thru' for the 'InsEF' parameter, write down that no Insertion Effects are used on the Voice.

      b) If anything other than 'thru' is displayed, write down that the Voice uses Insertion Effects.

NOTE: When creating a new Performance setup, it is helpful to first clear the settings by initializing the Performance. Do this before proceeding to the next steps. Click here for 'Initializing a Performance on an S80'

TIP: If there is a PLG100XG Plug-in Board installed in the S80, the XG Voices in Parts 17-32 will normally be doubling the Voices in Parts 1-16. To avoid this, Parts 17-32 must be muted via MIDI, or manually on the instrument. (Only Part 17 needs to be muted for this example.)
