CVP Series

Song Title Displays on the Screen but will not Play

This information applies to the following models:

CVP83, CVP85, CVP87, PSR620, PSR1700, PSR2700.

There are two types of Standard MIDI Files (SMF), Type 0 and Type 1. Both files end with the extention '.mid'. A 'Type 0' Standard MIDI File contains all MIDI Channel data on one Track, while a 'Type 1' Standard MIDI File contains data for each MIDI Channel on separate Tracks.

The keyboard models listed above will only play 'Type 0' Standard MIDI Files. If the song titles appear on the screen but will not play, the song is probably a 'Type 1' Standard MIDI File.

There are software utilities available that convert Type 1 Standard MIDI Files to Type 0 and vice versa. Most software music sequencers come with this feature built in. One such software music sequencer is MIDI Orchestrator Plus. This program is included in the Yamaha PC Music Studio Kit which is available for purchase through the Yamaha Parts and Accessories order line at (888) 892-6242 (Dial '1' as soon as the call is connected). Ask for the PC Music Studio, Part # PCMSKIT.
