Enabling an External MIDI Device to Control Keyboard Voices, Parts and Auto Accompaniment on a PSR540 and PSR550

The PSR540 and PSR550 can be configured so that an external MIDI device can control its Voices, Parts and Auto Accompaniment in the same way as the internal keyboard.
  1. Press the [FUNCTION] button.

  2. Turn the (DATA) Dial until 'F5 MIDI' is displayed on the screen.

  3. Press the [NEXT] button.

  4. Turn the (DATA) Dial until 'Menu=Receive Ch' is displayed on the screen.

  5. Press the [NEXT] button.

  6. Press the [1] 'Track' button below the screen.

  7. Select one of the following options:

    1. Turn the (DATA) Dial until 'Reciv Ch01=GM/XG' is selected. This will allow an external MIDI device to control the internal sounds of the PSR independent of the internal keyboard via MIDI channel 1. In this case, the keyboard will act as an external tone generator to the device to which it is connected.

    2. Turn the (DATA) Dial until 'Reciv Ch01=Keybd' is selected. This will allow an external MIDI device to controll ALL internal keyboard performance functions via MIDI channel 1.

    3. Turn the (DATA) Dial until 'Reciv Ch01=Chord' is selected. This will allow an external MIDI device to control the overall key of the auto accompaniment of the keyboard via MIDI channel 1. In this case, an external MIDI device is supplying the chord progession of the performance while the PSR auto accompaniment simply 'follows' along.

    4. Turn the (DATA) Dial until 'Reciv Ch01=Root' is selected. This will allow an external MIDI device to control the Bass Track of the auto accompaniment. In this case, an external MIDI device can provide alternate Bass Track control.
  1. Press the [EXIT] button.
