CLP Series

Effect of the Soft Pedal on the Piano Voice

This information applies to the following models:

CLP820, CLP840, CLP860, CLP860M, CLP880, CLP880M, CLP920, CLP930, CLP950, CLP970 and CLP990

The player in some cases may notice that the Soft pedal has very little effect on the timbre or volume of the Piano voice. This is normal. In a Grand Piano, the Soft pedal produces a slight change in brightness, not a drop in volume. The samples of the CLP series of digital pianos are taken from acoustic Grand Pianos, therefore, the Soft pedal simulates the effect of the Soft pedal of a Grand Piano. Some upright and spinet acoustic pianos have a Soft pedal that does produce a drop in volume, but this is not the case with the CLP series of digital pianos.
