Setting Up an Insert on the AW4416 and AW2816

An insert can be set up on the input channels, the playback channels, or the stereo bus. This allows external devices, either digital or analog, to be patched into the AW4416 and AW2816.
  1. Press the [SEL] button of the channel where an insert is to be set.

    NOTE: The AW4416 will need to be in the appropriate mixing layer. For more information see Explanation of the Mixing Layers of an AW4416.

  2. Press the [VIEW] button.
  3. Press the [F1] button.
  4. Use the 'CURSOR' buttons to select 'ASSIGN' in the 'EFFECT INSERT' section of the display. See the AW4416 View Page or the AW2816 View Page.
  5. Press the [ENTER] button. The 'EFFECT INSERT SETTING' popup window will be displayed. Figure 1: AW Effects Insert Pop.
  6. Use the 'CURSOR' buttons to select 'EXTERNAL' in the 'EFFECT INSERT SETTING' popup window.
  7. Press the [ENTER] button.
  8. Use the 'CURSOR' buttons to select the 'SEND' parameter in the 'EFFECT INSERT SETTING' popup window.
  9. Use the (DATA/JOG) wheel to select the 'SEND' output.
    NOTE: The 'SEND' output can be any of the 'OMNI' outputs, any of the Card Slot outputs, the 'DIGITAL STEREO OUT' or the 'ANALOG STEREO OUT'.
    TIP: Once a 'SEND' output is selected, no other inputs, busses or auxiliaries can be assigned to that output.
  10. Connect the 'SEND' output jack that was selected in the previous step to the input of the external device.Figure 2: AW Insert Connection Diagram.
  11. Use the 'CURSOR' buttons to select the 'RTN' parameter in the 'EFFECT INSERT SETTING' popup window.
  12. Use the (DATA/JOG) wheel to select 'RETURN' input.
  13. Connect the output of the external device to the 'RETURN' input that was selected in the previous step. Figure 2: AW Insert Connection Diagram.
  14. Use the 'CURSOR' buttons to select 'OK' in the display.
  15. Press the [ENTER] button.
