Portable Digital Recorders and Audio Workstations

Checking the Quality of a Stereo Track Recording on an AW4416

In order to properly critique the recording quality of the Stereo Track it should be monitored via the CUE bus, which is routed to the main monitor speakers and headphones. The CUE bus is a true reflection of the recording without any additional ''processing''. When the CUE bus is utilized there is no need to edit, undo, defeat, or disable any Level, Pan, EQ, Effects, or Dynamic processing settings; a convenience in the event that re-engineering is required.

NOTE: The output levels of the 'MONITOR OUT' and 'PHONES' are controlled separately.
  1. Press the [TRACK] button in the 'RECORDER' section.
  2. Press the [F3] button. The 'STEREO TRACK STATUS' screen will appear.
  3. If necessary, un-mute the Stereo Track. The Stereo Track is NOT muted when the 'L R' box is ''clear'' (not filled in / not dark).
    1. Use the 'CURSOR' buttons to select the 'L R' mute box below the [M].
    2. Press the [ENTER] button until the 'L R' mute box is clear.

  1. Press the [CUE] 'TRACK' button in the 'RECORD TRACK SELECT' section. The [ST] button will begin blinking.
  2. Press the [ST] button. It will stop blinking and remain solid red.
  3. Press the [RTZ] (Return To Zero) button in the 'LOCATE' section.

IMPORTANT: Adjust the output level of the 'MONITOR OUT' and/or 'PHONES' to a moderate level in order to avoid any possible component damage when the Stereo Track begins playback.

  1. Press the [PLAY] button.
  2. Adjust the output levels of the 'MONITOR OUT' and/or 'PHONES' as desired.
