What is Recreational Music Making?
According to Karl Bruhn, recognized as the father of the Music Making and Wellness movement, "Recreational Music Making encompasses enjoyable, accessible and fulfilling group music-based activities that unite people of all ages regardless of their challenges, backgrounds, ethnicity, ability or prior experience." While the definition refers to "group" interaction, it should be emphasized that an individual playing a musical instrument in a non-pressured manner with another person or alone can certainly enjoy numerous health and wellness benefits.

What is the connection between Music Making and Wellness?
Since the time of Socrates and Plato, people have recognized the benefits of making music. In 2004 a group of scientists led by neurologist, Barry Bittman, MD set out to determine whether or not a first recreational music making experience could reverse stress-induced biological changes that can lead to serious illnesses such as heart disease and cancer. The research team discovered that participating in the Clavinova Connection produced far greater reversal of stress-induced changes at the DNA level than typical relaxation activities. How is Clavinova Connection different from other group lesson programs?
In many ways, quite frankly. Each delightful session begins with a relaxing, settling Wellness Exercise. The program then evolves to an invigorating rhythm-based activity. Improvisation follows, as each person discovers the joy and ease of expressing the music within their hearts. Next, with the assistance of StarLIGHTS technology, your favorite songs come to life accompanied by a lush, orchestral background with you in total control. Ultimately, you will enjoy the opportunity to express your creative self, and discover your true musical potential without the challenges of a learning curve. Do I have to own an instrument to join?
No. There is no need to own a keyboard instrument of any type to participate in the Clavinova Connection.

I've never played an instrument before. Is that okay?
Absolutely, this program was designed particularly for those with little or no prior musical experience.

I took lessons before and struggled. Will I suffer the same disappointing results again?
The Clavinova Connection was created for people just like you. We have literally eliminated the learning curve for making music. No program has ever been easier. We are committed to ensuring your success from the start!

What if I already play?
Clavinova Connection has a lot to offer to everyone even for those who already play. It's really about exploring the joy of making music in a delightful, non-pressured manner. Many participants who played before have fallen in love with music again through the Clavinova Connection.

Will I have to spend lots of time practicing?
This program is not about tedious practice sessions. It's really about getting out and playing for pure enjoyment and well-being whenever you desire.

When are classes offered?
Times vary from by location. However, classes are typically offered during the day and in the evening (even on weekends). Please contact your local Clavinova Connection dealer for days and times.

How many sessions are in each level?
There are 8 sessions in each of the 3 levels.

How long is each session?
Each enjoyable fun-filled session lasts approximately one hour.

When can I join?
Classes begin on a regular basis. Yet even if you miss a session, you can still join in. We respect your time and commitments, and welcome your participation. Remember there's never been a better time to get out and play!

What if I have an older model CVP Clavinova?
The Clavinova Connection program is compatible with many earlier models of CVP Clavinovas. Ask your Facilitator for a list of compatible Clavinovas.
