To ensure that Yamaha teachers have the necessary musical and pedagogical skills to make the Yamaha teaching philosophy a reality in the classroom, Yamaha has established a Teacher Certification Process. Teacher Candidates should possess comprehensive musical skills including:

Musical Note Keyboard performance
Musical Note Keyboard harmony
Musical Note Improvisation
Musical Note Sight singing and playing
Musical Note Music theory

Candidates must also possess a desire and aptitude for teaching children and a genuine dedication to teaching beginning musicians.

To qualify for training and certification by the Yamaha Music Education System, teachers must pass comprehensive musical exams (Grade Exam System) and a personal interview, and be hired by a local Yamaha school. (Teaching Positions Available)

Training includes a two-day "Intro to YMES", followed by "Seminar A", an intensive week-long seminar conducted by national Yamaha Music Education staff members. After gaining classroom experience, teachers will receive further training at additional seminars to teach other courses.
