Yamaha Commercial Audio Hosts Take 6 at AES
Active Field Control System Shapes Concert Acoustics
BUENA PARK, CA (November 05, 2004) Grammy® Award-winning ensemble Take 6 performed at a standing room only special reception hosted by the Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems Division during the AES Show in San Francisco. On October 29 at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Take 6 displayed its signature a cappella sound in a venue set up to demonstrate the company’s proprietary Active Field Control (AFC) System. AFC shaped and corrected the room’s acoustics to provide a more realistic sound environment for the Take 6 performance.

"The performance by Take 6 demonstrates that AFC can take a less-than-ideal space and make it sound natural," says Larry Italia, general manager Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems Division. "We were delighted with their performance. The human voice is the most natural sound you can hear, and the Take 6 a cappella sound is truly inimitable."
Active Field Control is Yamaha's newest sound processing technology, which enables authentic simulation of specific performing arts venues for a more realistic sound environment. The first U.S. installation was unveiled in New York City at Yamaha Artist Services, Inc.
"We perform without microphones, and for an a cappella group to perform without mics is just the best way to go," said Alvin Chea of Take 6. "We really look forward to using this new technology."
Take 6, a talented group that over the past 16 years has recorded 11 albums and appeared on more than 125 others, is composed of Chea, Cedric Dent, Joel Kibble, Mark Kibble, Claude McKnight and David Thomas. The group recorded its first album, entitled Take 6, in 1988 and has since appeared with such artists as Babyface, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones and Michael McDonald. The group's vocals have won them numerous Grammy®, Soul Train, Dove and Downbeat Magazine awards. Take 6 has appeared on soundtracks for Dick Tracy, Boyz N the Hood, The Thing Called Love, and television's Murphy Brown, among countless others.
