| SFZ™ SERIES SNARE DRUMS |
| Renowned for its distinctive
sound, wide dynamic range, and explosive rim shot, the SFZ
(Sforzando) marching snare drum incorporates structural
innovations that permit the use of a high-tension Kevlar®
drumhead. Years in the making, the SFZ was developed and
perfected in field tests under the rigors of actual use
with The Cadets, The Cavaliers and The Madison Scouts drum
and bugle corps. The design offers powerful projection,
precise articulation and durable performance. |
Snare Assembly
|
For urgent drumhead changes, the strainer system allows
for quick and easy removal of the snare assembly. With the
use of FiberTech™ snares, a crisp and articulate sound
is obtained while ten independently adjustable strands allow
for precise tuning control.
|
The butt-side strainer uses aluminum die-cast construction for strength
without excess weight, and has vertical adjustment capability for a precise
setting of snare height. This also houses the independent adjustment for
each FiberTech™ snaregut.
The release-side strainer uses parts made of die-cast aluminum
and durable nylon for a smooth, noise-free operation. An
oversized vertical adjustment knob allows adjustment to
snare height even when snares are engaged. For a precise
setting of the snare tension, the horizontal adjustment
knob is within easy reach of the player. |
| Suspension Ring |
With the thickest wall in the industry,
the SFZ suspension ring allows
high-tension tuning without warping. It uses a solid, die-cast
design and a
special aluminum alloy to provide exceptional strength with
minimum
weight. It is also tall enough to accommodate the stretch
of a plastic head.
An extra long lug nut provides sufficient threading to effectively
grip the tension rod. Its beveled edge guides the rod to
eliminate cross threading, a feature especially helpful
during last-minute head changes. |
| Shell and Lugs |
| The 6-ply birch shell built using Yamaha’s
patented Air-Seal System® promotes a sharp attack with
a full-bodied sound. Three air holes vent the shell to promote
immediate snare response and to enhance projection. Tubular
lugs are made of high-quality, lightweight aluminum, and
feature a thick wall to resist dents and bending from heavy
use. |
| Stabilizer Power Posts™ |

|
These posts support the tube lugs by adding considerable
resistance against damage from accidental bumps and stick
hits. Since they are secured to the shell, the posts help
focus the drum’s tone and therefore, make the sound
more articulate. To facilitate quick bottom head changes,
the posts maintain the exact alignment necessary for the
bottom tension rods. |
| |
| Rims and Tension Rods |
| For consistent tuning and explosive rim shots, the top and bottom rims use a special aluminum alloy in a solid, die-cast design without excess weight. The 6mm diameter of the tension rods provides the extra strength necessary to maintain structural integrity under aggressive tuning conditions. Double steel washers allow smooth tuning adjustments at any tension.

Your Musical Needs |
| In contrast to the dynamic, full-bodied
sound of the 14" model, the 13" model is lighter
and can achieve a higher fundamental pitch with a controlled
sound for precision on the field or while indoors. |

Gravity Guards™ |

Locking nylon nuts help maintain tuning settings when set
against the bottom rim. These act as lock washers to slow
the turning of the rods caused by vibrations during play |
| Protective Feet |

| Exclusive to Yamaha, three
removable feet eliminate damage to the bottom components
of the drum when placed on rough surfaces |
