Chaun Horton

Chaun Horton Thumb
Chaun Horton

Growing up in Rochester New York, Chaun Horton's first introduction to music and drums was under the strict tutelage of his father, who conveniently happened to be a church organist. With his father's guidance and teaching, Chaun received the opportunity to play not only for his church, but other state choirs and events as well. This valuable experience allowed Chaun to become a drummer for the Monroe Community College Big Band in upstate New York, where he began performing at community events and studio recordings. After attending a camp held by the LA Music Academy, Chaun found himself enrolling the following month on a full scholarship, where he has since graduated. The LA Music Academy is an intensive contemporary music education program founded in 1996 by a number of prominent LA-based players, who also have significant music education experience. Chaun has toured with GRAMMY® award-winning neo soul/R&B singer, songwriter, record producer and actress Macy Gray and has also been touring with the beautiful and talented Natasha Bedingfield. He has appeared on countless television shows lately performing with Natasha. This summer Chaun will be touring with Colbie Caillat.

We recently put together a massive DTX rig around his Yamaha Custom Birch acoustic kit for the tour. Chaun needed it to be a flexible setup. He said that sometimes when he performs with Nastasha and Colbie they are on a big stage where he can use the whole setup, but sometimes he has to modify it and trim it down for smaller stages. He uses several DTX pads, which include 10” pads and 12" snare pads through the back of his DTX Multi-12 along with triggers from his acoustic snare and kick drum.
