Harmony Sets the Tone at
Oakland, CA Music School & Store

From basic rhythms and do-re-mi for toddlers to ear training, composing, and performance, Piedmont Piano Company Harmony Road Music School couples small class intimacy with world-class piano instruction. And, for the past decade, Yamaha Clavinova digital pianos have helped students from age 2 to adult discover just how much fun it is to make music: a mix of ten Clavinovas is at the center of Piedmont’s popular music school.

“The students and the teachers enjoy using the Clavinovas,” says Holly Simpson, director of music education, pointing out most classes are ensemble-oriented. “The Clavinovas, especially with MIDI disks, give the teachers more flexibility, and the kids have a lot of fun with all the different sounds. Their small size makes it easy to move them around when we need to, and,” she adds, “since the Clavinovas always stay in tune, they’re easy to maintain.”

Harmony Road Music School holds group and private lessons, serving approximately 160 students. Piedmont employs three teachers to work with students ages 2-12, and one private teacher, Mary Jean Kelsey, teaches intermediate to advanced piano students, including adults: group class size varies from five to eleven students in each session.

The comprehensive Harmony Road Music School program provides a strong basic musicianship foundation for any future direction in music, and increasingly advanced courses offer a challenging exposure to expert-level professionalism. A well-designed ensemble course structure includes group singing, rhythm, movement, and keyboard instruction in an enjoyable social atmosphere.

Not surprisingly, the success of the school has positively affected foot traffic and sales at Piedmont Piano, which is located in the same building. “These Clavinovas are all six to eight years old,” says Jim Callahan, owner and president of Piedmont Piano, “but they’re so well-built and sturdy, they’ve held up well under heavy use. We have a loyal following with students: they’re happy with the Clavinovas, and come to us when they’re ready to purchase.”

Two web sites, www.PiedmontPiano.com and www.HarmonyRoad.com, provide details about how to set up a Harmony Road Music School. This exciting and highly effective course of music study is offered in numerous communities across the United States.
