Successful Summer Seminars

In the hands-on seminars, Yamaha clinicians Dennis Stanfill and George Litterst demonstrate the Clavinova’s vast capabilities, including sequencing, recording, and computer related topics. Along with Stanfill and Litterst, Carden and Susan Ogilvy focus on these options for more effective teaching. Combined with creative projects and performance demonstrations, the seminar offers a comprehensive scope of opportunities.

According to Moon, Keyboard Kollege prizes the Clavinova for its broad collection of voices, its MIDI capability, and its ability to be played silently with headphones.

“Because these are digital pianos and the kids use headphones, they don’t all have to be working on the same piece,” she explains.

“The teacher can rotate around the room and listen to individual lessons. Each Clavinova has a box of MIDI disks that the students play for accompaniment. We use the disk drive every day.”

Music Exchange provides the Clavinova digital pianos for Keyboard Kollege, which opened in June 2000. The search for the new school’s location ended when Sacramento store manager Karen Cuneo noticed her doctor’s office in Orangevale had been vacated. Yamaha keyboard artist Phillip Keveren, who has recorded several popular Yamaha MusicSoft disks, performed at the store for its grand opening.
