Clavinova Festivals
(continued from page 5)

Each team leader acted as emcee for his or her group. The winner of the CLP810 raffle was a seven-year-old student who didn’t have an instrument at home. “He was so excited to win,” says Wherry. “The plan for next year is to do the same type of thing, maybe include teacher workshops. The Festival is a great way to get kids motivated to practice over the summer.”

In addition to coordinating Festivals, Frazer also helped honor the Clavinova Festival’s roots. The very first Clavinova Festival was held ten years ago at Foster’s Family Music, with locations in Bettendorf, IA and Moline, IL. To celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the program, Frazer along with Yamaha District Manager Al Janetka presented owner Jim Foster with a plaque in recognition of the historic event. A plaque was also presented to Foster’s former employee Harry Decker, who still comes back to emcee each year’s Festival.

“It has been an incredible year,” Frazer concludes, noting that more than 7,500 people participated in Clavinova Festivals in 29 states in 1999. In fact, the growth of the program has been so incredible that Yamaha has appointed Joy Carden to join Frazer in promoting and organizing Festivals nationwide.
