In March, renowned singers and songwriters James Taylor and Michael McDonald joined VH1 President John Sykes, NAMM President and CEO Larry Linkin, with National Association for Music Education Executive Director Dr. John Mahlmann in visiting key legislators, highlighting the importance of legislation’s role in maintaining music programs nationwide. The music education delegation met with U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and U.S. Representative William Goodling (R-Penn.) to speak about the importance of music education. In addition to the one-on-one meetings with key members of Congress, members of the music education delegation also attended a press conference where Rep. David McIntosh (R-Ind.) introduced a concurrent resolution in support of music education for children in every school in the U.S. Flanked by McDonald and Taylor, Linkin, Mahlmann and Sykes thanked Rep. McIntosh and co-sponsor Rep. Bob Clement (D-Tenn.) for their support of music education.
