Knows No Boundaries Linn Sorge of DeKalb, IL, a long-time owner of Clavinova digital pianos, was looking to purchase a new instrument, and when she tried the CVP98 she was hooked. In preparation for the arrival of her new digital piano, she called 800-PRO-YAMAHA to ask Keyboard Marketing Specialist Rollie Hudson for a second copy of the owner's manual. Requests like this aren't unusual: Specialists handle an array of questions from salespeople and consumers about Clavinova and Electone, as well as services and programs supporting these instruments. What's unique about this request is that Linn is blind and needed an owner's manual transcribed into Braille.
Because Linn has been a loyal Clavinova customer for many years, Rollie has had several opportunities to guide her on ways to interact with the Clavinova. Rollie, too, is blind. "I have passed along a trick or two over the years--things that I have learned that would certainly help Linn," he explains. Rollie receives a number of requests like this from other people and is always eager to assist. The CVP98 was just what Linn was looking for. "When I was in the market to purchase a new digital piano, I tried a lot of them out and I really liked the Yamaha Clavinova," she said. In addition to the better touch and sound, Linn also liked the variety of voices offered through General MIDI and the bank of pre-sets located in the middle of the unit because they are easily accessible. One feature stood out for Linn, however. "By tapping the rewind button, I can go back measure by measure, in addition to slowing down the tempo of the music when I am practicing or learning a new piece," she explained. "I don't have to have someone read me the music." Linn purchased her Clavinova from Janice Thorpe of Jackson's Piano in
Rockford, IL. "Linn is just a wonderful woman and picks up on the features quicker
than sighted people," said Thorpe. "She has been coming to us for the last ten
years and the CVP98 is the third Clavinova she purchased from our shop. It's always a
pleasure to work with her." |
