Young Artists Find Their Voices With the Clavinova
Aspiring young composers were introduced to a new world of Yamaha sounds at
the California Summer Music Camp in Pebble Beach, CA. The camp is held annually at
the Robert Louis Stevenson School, which sits on Pebble Beach's famous 17 Mile Drive.
Gifted students from age 2 to 20 travel from various regions of the country to nurture
their budding
talents and find their voices.
This is the third year Yamaha has supported the five-week music program.
Through Yamaha Peninsula Music in San Jose, CA, the camp received seven Clavinovas.
George Litterst from the New England Conservatory served as
master of ceremonies during a special orientation to introduce the camp's students and
faculty to Clavinova
digital pianos. A widely known authority on Yamaha pianos, Litterst explained how each
artist would
benefit from the digital piano.
The realism of the Clavinova's nine-foot concert grand piano sound makes it the
ultimate instrument for multi-track recording and playback. Moving beyond the sampling
of general MIDI to extended MIDI, the Clavinova provides students with more than
613 voice and orchestral strings for composition, arrangement and
accompaniment.
"We can do so much more authentically with the additional voices," explains
Litterst. "The Clavinova
provides these composers with
limitless possibilities."
Young composers attending this year's California Summer Music Camp also
received additional instruction from the talented faculty of the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music, where the world's leading cellist, Yo Yo Ma, presides on the
board of directors.
"Partnering with the California Summer Music Camp offers us a chance to
provide world-class pianos for these young artists," says Yamaha District Manager
Chuck Dadisman. "We also appreciate the opportunity
to do additional work with the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory."
