CAPMT Welcomes the Clavinova

When the Yamaha Clavinova digital piano hit the stage at the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) Convention last winter, it marked the expansion of a relationship that began a decade ago, when Yamaha was first given its status as Official Piano of the convention.Six Clavinova models, provided by The Music Exchange in Walnut Creek, CA, were used for the 1997 convention's student ensemble performances, held at Sacramento's Hyatt Regency.

One afternoon during the four-day convention, students of intermediate and advanced levels tickled the ivories on four CVP59 and 69 models, as well as two CLP models. The performers, students from various CAPMT districts, had received a "superior" rating in district competitions.

The Clavinova was chosen for its fine ensemble capabilities by electronic keyboard supervisor Joyce Rae. "The students love the Clavinova, partly because it's so easy to work with," said Rae, whose own students consistently rank high enough to perform yearly at the convention. "I especially like the customer support from Yamaha, which is one of the reasons I wanted Clavinova models for the convention."

Added Janet Davidson, President of CAPMT, the CA affiliate of the Music Teachers National Association, "We have been pleased with the Yamaha pianos over the years and are happy to use the Clavinova digital pianos for our ensemble performances."
