Motivation is Key at Ogilvy Music Academy
Susan and Jim Ogilvy are respected music educators and well known writers/arrangers who have found the Clavinova CVP96 digital piano to be an incredible teaching and performing instrument. Proprietors of the Ogilvy Music Academy in Denton, TX, Susan and Jim use a CVP96 in all their classes, with students ranging from second graders to high school seniors.

Ms. Ogilvy believes that the Clavinova's easy-to-use technology is extremely valuable as a motivational tool, particularly when working with children. "Kids are so media-conscious and accustomed to computers, video games and technology, I think it's important that their musical experience mirrors those activities," comments Ms. Ogilvy.

As a music educator, Ms. Ogilvy utilizes the Clavinova's style settings which are effective in grabbing and keeping a student's attention. "The Clavinova's style settings are very accurate and sensitive, working well with my students. The kids love playing familiar music in the style of musicians they admire," says Ms. Ogilvy.

According to Ms. Ogilvy, the Clavinova digital piano is also a great vehicle for teaching rhythm. She includes a number of different rhythm activities in her classes and often uses the Clavinova's multitude of drum sounds to accompany the keyboard practice. The large LCD display, pianist accompanist feature and virtual arranger are additional benefits that she believes help motivate and better teach her students. These features permit the students to play while accompanied by different instruments and helps them visualize what they are doing. "I also find it easier to teach sight reading with the Clavinova. There is music written specifically for the instrument - a great learning tool," states Ms. Ogilvy.

The Ogilvy's are also involved with their alma mater, The University of North Texas. Recently they performed an all-electric music concert there, featuring the CVP96 digital piano. The same versatility, quality of sound and innovative technology that makes the instrument such a powerful teaching instrument also serves the Ogilvy's as performers. When a friend, a retired Microsoft executive, invited them to his wedding in Olympia, WA, he mentioned that he had just bought a CVP96 for his new stepdaughter. The Ogilvy's recorded and arranged the couple's favorite wedding music, including Nat King Cole's "When I Fall In Love" and a selection of Kenny G tunes, on their Clavinova in Texas. They arrived at the wedding with the recorded disk, inserted it into the CVP96 and performed, with full orchestral accompaniment, at the event.
