The Clavinova Ushers Spirituality to a New Generation

Breaking the barriers of race, age, and time, the Clavinova is proving itself to be in tune with the needs of today’s modern church congregations.

With the help of Evan Tublitz at Artist Pianos, Ltd. in Latham, NY, demonstrations of the CVP96 and CVP69 have been held at State Street Presbyterian Church in Schenectady, NY, and Christ
Evan Tublitz, owner of Artist Pianos, Ltd. and Reverend Robert D. Smith of State Street Presbyterian Church worked together to open local churches to the endless possibilities of using the Clavinova.
Church of the Hills in nearby Mariaville. The recent demonstrations given by Yamaha specialist and artist Brent Mills opened local churches to the endless possibilities of using the Clavinova.

“It’s incredible what we can do with this instrument in meeting the needs of today’s multi-cultural church,” says Reverend Robert D. Smith, minister to both parishes. “The Clavinova’s Latin beats and African rhythms are reflective of the diversity of our parishes.”

Rev. Smith was also impressed with the Clavinova’s ability to speak to the younger members of his congregation, opening them up to a world of sounds they never dreamed of in a church setting.

“Young people are listening to the music more than the ministers,” says Rev. Smith. “We can speak to these young members through the music of the Clavinova, creating less traditional church orchestrations-something we couldn’t do before with our previous instruments.”

Amazed with the Clavinova’s sound quality and capabilities, Rev. Smith sees great potential to bring affordable, high quality music to small, struggling churches.

“Few parishes could afford instruments to create the multitude of music the Clavinova can play,” he says. “It makes it possible for us to have music when we don’t have an organist. We save on tuning costs. And it saves us time.”

The minister uses the Clavinova to plan ahead for his liturgy. With the help of a musician, he pre records his worship music to a disk, pops it into the on-board disk drive, and the Clavinova plays his disk during the service.

“I think the potential for the Clavinova is phenomenal,” exclaims Rev. Smith. “The music will usher a new generation into spirituality.”
