Elton John Fan Wins a Clavinova

Lucky radio contest winner Wendy Rawski received a new Yamaha Clavinova CLP810 digital piano courtesy of Yamaha and Starbird Piano and Organ in Portland, OR.

Lucky winner Wendy Rawski of South Berwick, Maine, was the tenth caller to reach WHOM-FM in Portland after the station played the opening bars of Elton John’s 1972 hit “Honky Cat.” That call entered Rawski in a drawing that resulted in her winning two tickets to the pop star’s concert at the Cumberland County Civic Center last April, dinner and a hotel room, a chauffeured limo—and a Yamaha Clavinova CLP810 digital piano to take home, courtesy of Yamaha and Starbird Piano and Organ in Portland.

“I’m not a musician, but I might be learning,” says Rawski, who serves as Deputy Town Clerk in Elliott, Maine. She was at work when she learned she had won the grand prize. “My colleagues were ecstatic for me,” she says. “I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t.”

Though she’s not a musician, Rawski reports that she’s enchanted with the Clavinova that now graces her den. “My family loves it,” she says. “My six-year-old son is studying several other instruments, and now he’s taking an interest in the Clavinova.” Rawski is considering taking piano lessons herself.

She also says the Clavinova digital piano is the center of attention when she entertains. “Everybody has to try it out,” she relates.

Harry Starbird III of Starbird Piano and Organ praised WHOM-FM for what he called “incredible” promotional support. Yamaha Piano Division District Manager Jim Levesque helped make the Clavinova giveaway possible.
