YAMAHA HELPS DISNEY'S YOUNG MUSICIANS MAKE MUSIC AT THE HISTORICAL RAVINIA FESTIVAL

or the seventh consecutive year, Yamaha helped 85 young musicians, all under the age of 12, make beautiful music as the proud co-sponsor and instrument supplier for the Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra.

This year's concert, hosted by Tony Award winning performer, Bernadette Peters, was held at the historical Ravinia Festival on the North Shore of Chicago. A televised version of the event premiered on the Disney Channel August 1, with additional showings throughout the month, reaching an estimated 50 million viewers.

During the concert, the young musicians orchestra bestowed classic performances of "Col. Bogey March" and Tchaikovsky's "Waltz" from Sleeping Beauty. The audience enjoyed theme songs from films such as "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Apollo 13," and Disney's "Mulan." Highlighting the musical evening was a sparkling performance on a Yamaha CFIIIS concert grand by 10-year old Pallivi Mahidhara.

Mahidhara moved to center stage from her spot in the second violin section and performed the Third Movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto in C, K.467. She prepared for the performance only days earlier, after one of the young concert pianists had fallen and broken his wrist.

Renowned conductor Jung-Ho Pak returned for the seventh year as principal conductor for the Orchestra. Acclaimed violinist Vanessa-Mae, currently featured on the title song of Janet Jackson's "Velvet Rope" album and in the Soul Children of Chicago choir, also performed with the young musicians at the movie themed event.

The show recently earned director Dwight Hemion a CableACE Award for Directing a Music Special or Series.
