Schloss has performed his original compositions and improvisations on numerous occasions at Seattle's Experience Music Project. As a percussionist and computer musician, he has played with Chucho Valdes, Tito Puente, Laurie Anderson, Joe Jackson, Rickie Lee Jones and other legendary artists. He was invited to perform at Stanford University's Centennial celebrations along with Leon Theremin, inventor of one of the first electronic musical instruments. In September, Schloss coordinated the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) in Havana.

 

ifty years ago, most piano technicians were male, but now you'd be surprised how many women are technicians today," says Piano Division consultant LaRoy Edwards. He should know, this father of six has three daughters—Susan, Judi, and Jane—all piano technicians.

Like Father, Like Daughters

"It's a good job," says LaRoy. "Music is very important to all of us. One of the best things about my work is the people I've met," he adds. "I've developed many friendships over the years with owners of Yamaha pianos."

Each September for more than two decades, the Edwards have kept approximately 25 Yamaha pianos on six stages in top form at the famed Monterey Jazz Festival, no small feat. "It's an outside environment, with early morning fog and high daytime humidity and heat.
