Newport Music Festival's 32nd Anniversary

he Newport Music Festival 2000, held July 7-23, marked its 32nd season of distinctive chamber music, American debuts, world-class artists, and special events, presented in the oceanside town's impressive "summer cottages." Yamaha Corporation of America was once again a proud sponsor of one of America's most beloved, and renowned, festivals.

"They are beautiful, beautiful pianos," says Dr. Mark P. Malkovich III, who celebrated both his 26th year as general director and his 70th birthday at this year's festival. Under his leadership, Newport has achieved worldwide recognition as a showcase for emerging international artists.

"Yamaha has been marvelous to us; we just love these pianos! Even the smaller pianos have a wonderful sound. Our artists, who come to us from all over the world, are so pleased to be performing on them."

Sixteen Yamaha pianos - the Yamaha CFIIIS concert grand, Yamaha Disklavier® DC7 and DC6 grands, Yamaha C7 and C3 conservatory grands, and Yamaha U1 acoustic uprights - were played in concerts at several of Newport's famed mansions. More than 79 artists from 22 countries performed at The Breakers, The Elms, Marble House, Belcourt Castle, Rosecliff, and Ochre Court, with additional performances held aboard the cruiser "Vista Jubilee," outdoors under tents, and in churches.
