An avid Phantom of the Opera fan, 18-year-old Kathleen
was preparing to study musical theater at college when she was diagnosed
with osteogenic sarcoma. To avoid amputation, doctors replaced the bones
in her leg with metal. As a result, she can no longer bend her leg. Kathleen's
wish for a grand piano was relayed to the Starlight Children's Foundation
of Chicago, which then contacted Terry Lewis. Kathleen, undergoing rigorous
chemotherapy treatment, was having a particularly bad day when she was told
that her wish was coming true thanks to Yamaha. She said, "one of the
worst days of my life had turned into the best." Disklavier GranTouch
Sales manager David Kreisberg reports that the DGT2IIXG is attractive to customers from all walks of life. "It has generated quite a bit of enthusiasm and excitement among customers," he explained. "Many comment that it's 'adorable' because of its petite size." ![]() The instrument's most recent admirers and purchasers include actress Pamela Anderson and entertainer Merv Griffin. Even Kreisberg was taken by the DGT2IIXG at a recent Beverly Hills party. "I heard the piano playing and assumed it was an acoustic grand," he said. "I was floored when I realized that it was the DGT2IIXG." Organizers of lavish Los Angeles events are among the typical customers at Abell Pianos, which has built its reputation among the Hollywood community during 45 years in the same location. Among the exhaustive list of Yamaha Disklavier purchasers are Bob and Dolores Hope, Dustin Hoffman, Nicholas Cage -- who bought a DC2 and DC3 grand -- Anthony Edwards, Herb Alpert, composer Mark Shaiman, Eagles band member Glenn Frey and songwriter Michael Masser. |
