Yamaha Unveils The Future of Pianos
at NAMM Show

amaha unveiled the future of pianos at the 1998 Winter NAMM Show in Los Angeles. The new piano lineup shared the display with a host of exciting merchandising tools, programs and award presentations. In addition, visitors to the booth were entertained with performances by 14-time GRAMMY® winner David Foster and young composers from the Yamaha Music Education System.

Among the new products Yamaha introduced during the four-day show were the revolutionary Disklavier® PRO™ Series grand pianos, providing a uniquely effective, high-performance solution for studios, institutions and today's most discerning musicians.

MMR magazine's "Acoustic Keyboard Line of the Year" added four new upright models -- T116 upright piano (48"), U1 (45"), U3 (52") and U5 (52"). Evan Tublitz, owner and president of Artist Pianos in Syracuse and Albany, NY, was delighted with the new models, commenting, "With the right finishes at the right price points, the new T116 is going to be an instant favorite. The restyled cabinets of the U1, U3 and U5 are truly eye-catching and add a sophisticated European look to these top quality instruments."

New hybrid models include the Yamaha MIDIPIANO™, which combines the renowned Yamaha piano touch and rich tone in a traditional piano cabinet with the added benefits of MIDI technology. A new Disklavier model is the MX1 (48") professional upright piano.

The tremendously popular DGT2IIXG Disklavier® GranTouch™ digital grand piano introduced last winter is joined by an elegant 4'11" cousin: the new compact DGT7 Disklavier® GranTouch™ digital grand piano, complete with a real grand piano keyboard action and sound plus up to 700 realistic instrumental sounds.

Yamaha also introduced the sophisticated DSR1 tone generator/sequencer, an external MIDI module that combines the power of the Yamaha XG format and the record/playback features of the
