Dakota Bar & Grill Features Yamaha C7

atrons of the Dakota Bar and Grill in St. Paul, MN, have come to expect great jazz music as much as they do fresh walleyed pike or Minnesota brie and apple soup. The best in the business have flocked to the Dakota for the past 10 years, and whether they're pounding out funky blues or playing tender ballads, the musicians bring their tunes to life with the house Yamaha C7 grand piano.

Metropolitan Piano Gallery has provided the C7 to the Dakota for the past three years. The piano has become so popular with visiting musicians that most have signed it. Many have included words of praise or thanks with their signatures, such as "A great place, great staff and great piano! Thank you," from Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

"The Dakota is probably one of the best jazz clubs between New York and Los Angeles. It pulls in more well-known artists than do some concert halls," said Greg Moss, President of Metropolitan. "The biggest names in the business have played on that Yamaha piano, and we're thrilled to be part of that excitement."

In fact, during the fall of 1996, the Dakota presented a three-month Yamaha Signature Piano Series event. Among the artists featured were Rubalcaba, Tommy Flanagan, McCoy Tyner, Monty Alexander, JoAnne Brackeen and Marcus Roberts.

"These musicians are right at home with the Yamaha piano," explained bar owner Lowell Pickett. "It's a pleasure bringing top names in jazz to the Twin Cities, and being able to accommodate these greats with such a quality piano. Metropolitan and Yamaha have provided a lot of support, and they're great to work with."
