Working with Peter Marsh of Eaton's Music Center, Naples, FL, Disney outfitted the Disney Magic with one C6 and two C3 conservatory grand pianos. The C3's provide piano entertainment in the Sessions Piano Bar and the Promenade Lounge, while the C6 resides in the Magic's main lobby. Disney is so pleased with the consistent quality and value of Yamaha
that Mr. Marsh is in the process of ordering Yamaha pianos for the Magic's
sister ship, the Disney Wonder. In addition to performing concerts throughout the world as part of his first prize at the Vianna da Motta Competition, Chang is pursuing his doctoral degree with distinguished professor Sequeira Costa, at the University of Kansas. By studying with Costa, Chang is part of an interesting musical heritage. Costa was a student of da Motta, while da Motta was the last principal student of Franz Liszt. Chang began studying piano at the age of nine. From 1988 to 1992 he
studied at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under the tutelage
of Gabriel Kwok. He received his Advanced Diploma in Piano Performance
with high distinction and was also awarded the Royal Jockey Club Scholarship.
In addition to the da Motta, Chang has won many international music
competitions, such as the Karl Müller Piano Competition, Asia Regional
Pre-Gina Bachauer Competition, Hong Kong Regional Selection for the
China International Piano Competition, and KUSO Concerto Competition.
In June 1996 he won first prize in the J.N. Hummel International Piano
Competition in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, where he also won a special
prize for the best performance of Hummel's work. |
