Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1953, Mike Stern is known as one of the worlds leading contemporary jazz guitarists. Putting down Clapton and Hendrix licks at age 12, Mike switched to jazz while studying at Berklee College of Music in 1971. Following 2 years each with Blood, Sweat and Tears and Billy Cobham's powerhouse fusion band, he joined the Miles Davis Group and from there, his popularity soared, later joining up with countless world-class musicians like Joe Henderson, Jaco Pastorius, Jim Hall, Pat Martino, Tom Harrell, Arturo Sandoval, David Sanborn and The Brecker Bothers. Recording his solo debut, Upside Downside, in 1986, Mike went on to be named 'Jazz Guitarist of The Year' by Guitar Player Magazine in 1993 and received Grammy nominations in 1994 and 1996. Revered for his incredible ability to fuse jazz, blues, rock, funk, world and folk music, Mike Stern constantly strives to redefine what is possible on the electric guitar. Mike plays Yamaha Pacifica guitars.
