Yamaha Corporation Introduces Women Shaping the Future of the Music Industry to Celebrate International Women's Day

Based on the idea of contributing to the accomplishment of SDGs through its business, Yamaha Corporation (hereinafter "Yamaha" or "the Company") actively endorses the vision of the Unstereotype Alliance* led by UN Women and has been a member of the Japan National Chapter since December 2020.

As part of this initiative, on March 1, Yamaha launched "Women Who Make Waves 2024," a series of interviews released on its website introducing women active in various fields of music around the world, in line with this year's theme for International Women's Day "Invest in women: Accelerate progress."

The Yamaha Group aims to contribute to the development of an inclusive music industry and a rich and sustainable music culture by supporting the diverse activities of women in music and increasing the number of opportunities for growth. Moreover, in an effort to eliminate gender and identity stereotypes, Yamaha creates occasions within and outside the Company for women of various backgrounds to speak up, and shares messages of respect for diversity.

The year 2021 saw the debut of its campaign "Women Who Make Waves," an initiative which celebrates the active participation of women. Now in its fourth year, the campaign focuses on 23 women from 16 countries and regions, including artists, sound engineers, music producers and music teachers, who share their thoughts on creating a fairer and more inclusive music industry, the dreams they want to realize through music and messages for people facing difficulties and challenges. One of them is Yvette Young, an American songwriter, musician and visual artist, featured in the campaign video, sharing her experiences of overcoming life's challenges with music and her principles around creating art and sound.

In addition, today on International Women's Day, Yamaha is launching an internal campaign to share messages from management and the stories of its female employees around the world to encourage their success.

Together with the Unstereotype Alliance, the Yamaha Group will continue to empower all women and girls to create while free from any constraints, to express their individuality, sensitivity, and creativity through music, and to take the initiative to Make Waves with sound and music.
