Matt Cameron began playing drums professionally at age 14 in various cover bands in San Diego, Ca. Matt took private lessons from ages 17-19 with Jon Szanto from the San Diego Symphony.
After moving to Seattle at age 20 (1983), Matt played in a variety of bands, and instantly found the creative local music scene very inspiring. While there, Matt met many creative musicians such as neighbor Kim Thayil. Kim's new band Soundgarden was in need of a new drummer, so Matt joined on drums and remained from 1986-1997. Soundgarden toured the world many times over, released 5 albums and won two GRAMMYs.
Soon after the breakup of Soundgarden, Matt was asked to join Pearl Jam in 1998. Matt has toured extensively with Pearl Jam and recorded 4 studio albums. 2012-13 has Matt and a reunited Soundgarden touring and release a new studio album "King Animal" as well as recording the follow up to Pearl Jam’s 2009 album "Backspacer."
