"Light and Music Relight Your Heart"
The combination of sound and light, as with the fusion of music and spotlights on a stage, evokes feelings of excitement. For all of us, light and sound serves both a functional and emotional purpose.
Since 2013, Yamaha has been producing a series of Interior Audio called "Relit" , with this concept in mind. In this exhibition, Yamaha will revisit the attraction of the series, through a collaborative project with Tord Boontje using 14 units of prototypes based on the LSX-70 and LSX-170.
Tord Boontje has crossed the boarders of pragmatism and aesthetics with ease, as he continues to release new products that unify beauty and function. He works with international companies on a range of mass productions, as well as one-off pieces; from lighting, furniture and textiles, to site specific installations.
Whilst keeping the lighting function and 360 degree sound system the same, Boontje's design approach puts forth a new perception of the beauty between industrial products and crafts, in line with the theme for this collaboration: "What is the perfect design for the fusion of light and sound?"
"Studio Tord Boontje has transformed these industrially produced speakers in to handcrafted objects. This approach to technology stems from the studio's desire to make everyday objects warm, characterful and materially interesting."says Boontje.
A kinetic 12.2ch soundscape, exclusively composed by sonic artist Manabu Shimada, will be played using the 14 speakers from the 18th to 20th November. This composition consists of two parts, a musique concrète soundscape using Yamaha field recordings, and a postmodern minimal music for piano and string quartet, inspired by the material of Hairy Creature Speakers.
Courtesy of Tracey Neuls, Yamaha Design Studio London will hold this exhibition at Tracey Neuls Marylebone. The speakers will be exhibited alongside distinctive shoes handmade by skilled craftspeople, with carefully chosen materials.
