Nomad Post Not Alone With Two Yamaha DM2000VCM Digital Audio Consoles
— Father and Son Team Build New Studios —

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Nomad Post, a 5.1 mixing suite located in the heart of New York City, opened its doors in August 2003 and armed with the latest, state-of-the-art equipment, is designed to meet the needs of audio projects from voice over record and worldwide ISDN to complex sound design and 5.1 surround mixing. Nomad's experience ranges from recording/mixing for radio, TV, and broadcast specials to surround sound DVD projects. Their surround mixing expertise earned the facility a GRAMMY® win in 2004 as part of a team effort for "Journey to the Blues," directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Michael Borofsky. Integrated into editorial facility Earth2Mars, a great synergy exists between the two companies in that Nomad functions as Earth2Mars in-house audio facility and clients of Nomad are able to take full advantage of the services provided by the Earth2Mars including editing, graphic creation, finishing and distribution capabilities.

Crediting his dad for his career choice, six-time TELLY Award winner and Nomad Post owner Mike Levesque, Jr. said what initially sparked his interest in audio post mixing was watching his dad's career take off not only as an engineer but a gifted composer. "Naturally, growing up with my father, Mike Levesque, Sr. a significant presence in the industry, had a tremendous influence on me," he says. "Initially, I pursued other educational interests after graduating high school but in college I decided to be an audio engineer. Now I can't imagine myself doing anything else." In 1994, Mike, Jr. began his career working at Nutmeg Music, the studio his father opened in 1975.

Since the early 1970's, Mike, Sr. has been called upon to compose, produce and sound design numerous soundtracks for broadcast TV and radio with credits including the original background score for Robert DeNiro's TV anthology "Tribeca" episode entitled "Rainmaker." He has scored numerous TV and radio commercials for clients such as Mercedes, Restasis, Aquafresh Toothpaste, Financial Times, Halls Vitamin C Drops, Microsoft, Panasonic, Toyota, Foxwoods, IBM, Trident Gum and worked on numerous children's videos and CDs for Sesame Street, Smithsonian Institute, Golden Books and Walt Disney.

In 2001, Mike Levesque, Jr.'s career path led him to Photomag Sound in New York City where he says he was privileged to work alongside some of the best mixers in the post industry. "I gained invaluable experience working in that environment and it gave me a strong foundation with which to build my career," he notes. It was in 2003 following the closure of the Tapehouse Companies including Photomag, the father and son team reunited to open Nomad Post.

The facility houses two post rooms featuring Yamaha DM2000VCM digital audio consoles. Engineer Mike Levesque, Jr. says his first use of the DM2000 console was mixing "Journey to the Blues" for Scorsese and Nomad client Borofsky. Both rooms at Nomad are identical and in addition to the two Yamaha consoles feature an Avalon mic pre amp, Genelec 5.1 surround system monitors, ProTools HD systems, Dolby E Processors, DBMax, Sony TC DAT, Tascam DA98 recorders, and Sennheiser and Neumann microphones.

Of his experience mixing on a digital console, Levesque, Jr. says he started with Yamaha's DMC1000 almost 12 years ago. "I appreciate the flexibility that digital has to offer over analog especially the immediate total recall of all parameters and the available signal processing that the DM2000 offers," states Levesque, Jr. "The feature which I find most useful is the flawless user interface with ProTools, the routing flexibility is awesome, the 5.1 monitoring makes the console a breeze to use, not to mention that it sounds great."

Nomad has recently completed a series of sound design and mix projects including the re-branding of the SPEED Network, Mercedes C Class commercials, MTV True Life, BET Network promos, Lowes Home Improvement 'How To' videos, Foxwoods Resort & Casino, and Verizon radio and television commercials. He also completed the 5.1 mix for the last two Pixies DVD releases and the 5.1 mix for Elvis Costello's DVD entitled "Live in Memphis" from the Club Date Series.

Mike Levesque Music LLC founded by Mike, Sr. composes music for large-scale corporate events and staging live percussion/dance pieces. Working with two different musical groups, "The Rhythmics" (www.therhythmics.com) and "Live Lab" (www.livelabcreative.com) over the past decade, he has created music for just about every major corporation. With a Yamaha DM2000 as the centerpiece of his home studio, Mike, Sr. says he has evolved his studio environment around Yamaha digital desks since the early days of the DMC1000. "Creating percussive background scores for live performances at my home studio, the DM2000 is a great sounding mixer and helps to streamline my projects." He uses a MOTU Digital Performer, Mackie HR 824's, Genelec 5.1 monitors, and the usual compliment of outboard gear. The studio walls are lined with an extensive collection of eclectic guitars along with three full racks of vintage midi sound modules.
