Landmark Yamaha PM1D Digital Console Retires on 10TH Anniversary

BUENA PARK, Calif. - On September 22, 1999, the Yamaha PM1D first-of-its-kind digital mixing system designed specifically for live sound reinforcement made its debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The PM1D started a digital revolution in live sound, and its worldwide popularity resulted in significant sales, and the beginning of a new era.

Now 10 years later, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. has announced that Yamaha Corporation Japan has reached the limit on availability of key components. Therefore, in order to secure enough parts for customer service well into the future, the production of this legendary mixing system will cease in December 2009. Current requests for PM1D systems will be fulfilled, and limited quantities will remain available until the existing stock is depleted.

The company is not resting on its laurels, however, and has made available online a brief 'white paper' that will provide customers with its concept for the next generation Yamaha digital system platform.

"Yamaha Corporation Japan has been hard at work advancing the next generation digital system platform," states Larry Italia, Vice President/General Manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. " The PM1D was responsible for moving the commercial audio market forward, and as we begin this next era, our goal is to continue to provide our customers with the tools that meet changing market demands well into the 21st Century."
