James Taylor Appears on the Big Screen in Funny People

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 13, 2009) Celebrities abound in Judd Apatow’s latest film Funny People, which hit theaters last Friday, July 31, and Yamaha artist James Taylor is one of the hilarious, surprise guests. The GRAMMY Award winning singer/songwriter plays a Yamaha C7S grand piano lent by Yamaha Corporate Artist Affairs during his cameo performance, where he plays the entertainer at a MySpace event.

The corporate gig is attended by the star of the movie George Simmons, played by real time comedian Adam Sandler. George is a seasoned stand-up comedian, who takes Seth Rogan’s character, a very green perfomer, under his wing when George learns of his own terminal illness.

Apatow, also known for his hits The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, has said about his third film behind the camera, “I’m trying to make a very serious movie that is twice as funny as my other movies. Wish me luck!”

Taylor also appears on the soundtrack to the movie, which features live tracks of his on camera performances of “Carolina In My Mind” and “Secret O’Life.”

Sandler, Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, Rza and newcomers Aubrey Plaza and Aziz Ansari join a cast that reunites Apatow with Rogen, Leslie Mann and Jonah Hill in their third comedy together. The film grossed more than $23 million at the box office during its opening weekend.
