NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 21, 2009) — Yamaha artists have celebrated the inauguration of 44th president of the United States Barack Obama in big ways over the course of the past few days, one of which was the concert at the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball Tuesday night. The star-studded event aired live on ABC and featured performances by
Alicia Keys and
Stevie Wonder, both on a Yamaha
C6S grand piano placed by YCAA, Maroon Five featuring Yamaha drummer
Matt Flynn, Beyonce and Mariah Carey, among others.
The Neighborhood Ball, a first of its kind and one of the few balls open to the public, was the first of 10 official balls that the Obamas were scheduled to attend. Early numbers show an estimated 12.6 million viewers tuned in to the live coverage. Overall, television turned out in unprecedented ways to cover the inauguration and related events, and early reports say the coverage could go down as one of the most-watched events in TV history.
