Aabersold's Summer Jazz Workshop Will Feature Yamaha Drummer Ed Soph

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (June 9, 2008) — World renowned Yamaha drummer Ed Soph will be teaching and performing at the Aabersold Combo Jazz Workshops at the University of Louisville June 29 - July 4 and July 6 - 11. Begun nearly 40 years ago, Jamey Aabersold's Summer Jazz Workshops have earned a reputation for producing the best intensive programs for learning jazz improvisation.

Each Year, the Summer Jazz Workshops assemble more than 60 of the nation's leading educators and performers dedicated to providing an intensive learning experience for musicians of all ages and levels. Theory Classes, Ear Training, Combo Performance, and Master Class Sessions allow individuals the opportunity to grow and develop to their fullest potential. Each day's schedule is filled with classes, rehearsals, seminars and concerts.

Participants get master classes on their instruments, ear-training sessions, free concerts by the all-star faculty each night, jazz theory classes and more. Ed Soph is an Associate Professor in the Jazz Studies and Performance Divisions of the College of Music at the University of North Texas. He teaches applied drumset students and the Rhythm Section Master Class. He has toured and recorded with Stan Kenton, Woody Herman and Clark Terry. He is the author of several videos on drumset playing and is an active clinician for Yamaha drums.
