Mark Buselli 's Biography

Mark Buselli is Director of Jazz Studies at Ball State University. He has received many awards including the 2010-11 BSU College of Fine Arts Dean's Creative Arts Award, the Creative Renewal grant from the Indianapolis Arts Council in 2005, the Teacher of the Year award in 2004 at Butler University, the Creative Vision award from NUVO in May of 2007, a top ten CD release of 2009 in JAZZIZ magazine for An Old Soul, a top 100 CD of the decade in DownBeat magazine for the Buselli/Wallarab release of Basically Baker, and the 2012 Top Five Finalist Large Jazz Ensemble of the Year in the Jazz Times Critics poll with the Buselli/Wallarab Jazz Orchestra.

Buselli has over forty arrangements published for big bands, brass ensemble, and piano/trumpet. He has nine recordings out on the Owlstudios and OA2 record labels. He has performed with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, Slam Stewart, Natalie Cole, The Four Tops, The Temptations, and Ben Vereen. He has played for former presidents Jimmy Carter, George H. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.

Buselli currently serves as Education Director of the Buselli/Wallarab Jazz Orchestra in Indianapolis, where he has created numerous educational opportunities for over fifty thousand students with their relationship to Arts for Learning Indiana. Buselli was the featured trumpet soloist on the award winning short film "Claire and the Keys," released in 2015.

Buselli graduated from Berklee School of music in Boston, and received his Master's degree in Jazz studies from Indiana University. While at Indiana, he was awarded a Performer's Certificate. He is a Yamaha performing artist, and the Symposium Jazz Coordinator for the Music for All Summer Symposium. Buselli resides in Indianapolis with his wife Andrea and daughter Sophia.
