Gretta Cohn

Gretta Cohn's Biography

Rock cellist Gretta Cohn is a New York native who found a home in Omaha Nebraska's indie powerhouse, Saddle Creek Records. Armed with a background in classical music and a keen love for rock music, Gretta quickly established herself as a cellist with a rock ear and a powerful performance style.

As a member of hard/art rock band Cursive until late 2005, she brought a distinct element to an already inimitable band. A member of the Saddle Creek Record family, she continues to bring her improvisational and compositional talents into the studio and on stage to friends such as Bright Eyes, The Faint, and Island Record's Thursday. She has worked closely with producers Mike Mogis of Presto Recording and Ross Robinson, of I Am Recordings. A rigorous touring schedule has included stops at Coachella, the Short List, and the Curiosa Festival.

Most recently, Gretta has made a strong move into the world of film soundtrack and scoring, and continues to work closely with friends and labelmates on solo-oriented and collaborative material. A distinctive voice in a guitar-based world and a visually stunning performer, Gretta brings her talents and passion for music to all that she lends her name to.
