Buddy DeFranco's Biography

BUDDY DEFRANCO has a 30 year history of playing Yamaha Clarinets, and an astonishing 65 years playing professionally. During this time he has influenced virtually every other jazz clarinetist, won countless awards, & recorded more albums than any other clarinetist since the Swing Era. Today at 80 years of age, he is still one of the most imaginative clarinetists playing, and still receiving rave reviews and accolades whenever he plays.

His new internationally acclaimed biography: A Life in the Golden Age of Jazz, a Biography of Buddy DeFranco, richly illustrates his rise from Italian South Philadelphia musical roots, through the big bands of Gene Krupa, Ted FioRito, Charlie Barnet, Tommy Dorsey, and Count Basie to the Jazz Legend he is today, making appearances worldwide as guest soloist with big bands, small groups, and Symphony Orchestras. His career has seen him make concert and recording appearances with such stars as Billie Holliday, Nat King Cole, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Lenny Tristano, Frank Sinatra, Nelson Riddle, Billy Eckstine, Herb Ellis, Art Blakey, Mel Torme, Terry Gibbs, Oscar Peterson. He is still recording, most recently for Arbors Records with the John Pizzarelli Trio & Butch Miles on drums.
