Lori Baruth's Biography

Dr. Lori Baruth is Associate Professor of Clarinet at Morehead State University, where she joined the faculty in 2007. She received her DMA from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (2010) and her MM (2004), BM (1999) and BME (1999) from The Ohio State University. Her teachers have included Richie Hawley, Steve Cohen, James Pyne and Dr. Donald McGinnis.

Dr. Baruth has performed as principal clarinet with the Huntington, Westerville, Cave Run and Central Ohio Symphony Orchestras as well as with the Louisville Ballet (second clarinet and bass clarinet), Heisey Wind Ensemble and Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca Orchestra (Italy). She has given master classes and recitals around the United States and globally in Goiânia, Brazil; Florianópolis, Brazil; Lucca, Italy; and Avellino, Italy. Dr. Baruth has performed at the Marshall University Festival of New Music (2014 and 2018), Grandin Vocal Chamber Music Festival and the MusicX Contemporary Music Festival. She is a sought-after clinician, adjudicator and performer. In 2014 and again in 2018, Dr. Baruth was the clarinet faculty artist clinician at the Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the featured Yamaha Performing Artist at the ICA ClarinetFest 2016, having been invited to represent Yamaha in a clinic session on "Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the Applied Clarinet Studio." In 2012, Dr. Baruth was a finalist in the ICA's Research Competition, and her doctoral research was published in The Clarinet (the professional journal of ICA) in March 2014. She taught at the 2011 Festival Nacional de Música at the Escola de Música e Artes Cênicas da UFG in Goiânia, Brazil.

Dr. Baruth is a founding member of Trifecta!, a trio for clarinet, bassoon and piano. Advocates of new music, Trifecta! commissioned and performed five new works at the ICA's ClarinetFest in 2014 and 2016 and performed works the group commissioned at the International Double Reed Society Conference in 2017. Dr. Baruth performed as a soloist and with Trifecta! at the 2016 Society of Composers, Inc. Region III Conference in Huntington, West Virginia. Trifecta! has also performed at the Women in Music Conference the ICA Mid-America Clarinet Festival held at The Ohio State University (2014), the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference (2015), the Festival of New Music at Marshall University (2013) and the Kentucky Music Teachers Association State Conference (2013). Trifecta! was also invited to perform at the 2019 Women in Music Conference in Columbus, Mississippi. Trifecta! released its debut album, Cumulus Accumulation, in March 2015. Dr. Baruth also performs with the Baird Winds and Movére woodwind quintets, and she has served as clarinet faculty at the Lutheran Summer Music Academy and Festival since 2007. At both LSM and the Morehead State University Summer Arts Academy, she gives lessons, presents master classes, coaches chamber ensembles, teaches musicianship and Eurhythmics courses and performs on faculty artist recitals. She often gives presentations on Eurhythmics in the Dalcroze methodology of music teaching.

Dr. Baruth is a Yamaha Performing Artist and a D'Addario Artist.
