Yamaha Subsidiary in China Passes Cleaner Production Audit

Yamaha Corporation (Headquarters: Nakazawa-cho 10-1, Naka-ku, Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka-ken; President and Representative Director: Mitsuru Umemura) is pleased to announce that Hangzhou Yamaha Musical Instruments Co., Ltd. (Hangzhou city, China), a China-based subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation, is the first company in the Yamaha Group to pass the "Cleaner Production Audit,” which is based on China’s Cleaner Production Promotion Law.

In 2003, China put into effect its Cleaner Production Promotion Law to promote the adoption of clean production that utilizes clean energy, raw materials, and production techniques, in order to prevent environment pollution. Regional governments in China conduct Cleaner Production Audits at the request of those businesses that have been recognized as achieving extremely clean production by working on their own initiative to take such measures as lowering energy consumption, reducing resource use, and cutting down on the amount of waste they generate, in order to reduce the environmental impact of the manufacturing industry.

As a result of technological advances and improved control of daily operations aimed at reducing energy consumption, Hangzhou Yamaha was able to decrease CO2 emissions per unit of sales by 15 percent in comparison to the previous year. The company also embarked on initiatives to reduce waste and strengthen its handling of environmental risks, and in December 2011 passed a Cleaner Production Audit conducted by its host city of Hangzhou. Hangzhou Yamaha is the first company in the Yamaha Group to pass this audit.

Additionally, in May 2012 Hangzhou Yamaha also acquired ISO14001 environmental management systems certification, in line with Yamaha Group policy.

Hangzhou Yamaha will use these two endorsements as a platform on which to continue with initiatives aimed at protection of the environment.

The Yamaha Group views initiatives for the environment as being an important theme in future business activities, and will work to reduce the environmental load of production activities at its production facilities around the world, and to lower the environment impact of its products throughout their lifecycle.
