“Shizuoka Forests of the Future Supporter System” Report on Second Planting

- A project in collaboration with Hamamatsu City and Shizuoka Prefecture in support of the regrowth of the Enshunada coastal forest -

In March of 2007, as part of its environmental conservation activities, Yamaha Corporation was the first company to join in the "Shizuoka Forests of the Future Supporter System" system, which aims to support the regrowth of the Enshuhama coastal forest. Yamaha plans to work with Shizuoka Prefecture and Hamamatsu City in a five-year plan to aid in the regrowth of this insect-damaged forest. This report details the second time that employees of Yamaha Corporation and its Group Companies took part in planting seedlings.
With the weather in full coopertion, approximately 120 employees and their families gathered for the event. At the opening ceremony preceding the planting, Mr. Ben Sasaki, Executive Officer and member of the Board of Yamaha Corporation offered a greeting on behalf of the Corporation, with Mr. Mizuno, head of the Hamamatsu City Parks and Open Spaces Department also offering a speech. Following the ceremony and prior to the planting of the 180 indigenous wax myrtle and ubame oak seedlings, participants received instruction and an explanation of the work involved from landscape gardening personnel. With the seedlings already reaching 1.5m in height, carting them around and preparing suitably-sized holes for them meant demanding physical labor, but the children in attendance tried as hard as they could to keep pace with the adults.
After they finished planting, participants took the opportunity to view seedlings from the first year's planting, listen to lectures on the environment given by staff from Hamamatsu City and Shizuoka Prefecture, and learn about the pine groves and coastal forest reserves present in recent years.
Yamaha Corporation will continue to support the creation of coastal forests that serve as both disaster protection and research and recreational areas, continuing to encourage its employees to join in future afforestation and maintenance activities.
