Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, "Sweet" Sue Terry began her professional career in Hartford, Connecticut, where she was a graduate of the Hartt School and a protégé of saxophonist Jackie McLean. She has played or recorded with Dr. Billy Taylor, Clark Terry, Al Jarreau, Walter Bishop Jr., Chaka Khan, George Duke, Hilton Ruiz, Barry Harris, Irene Reid, Clifford Jordan, Juan Carlos Formell, Dr. John, Jazzberry Jam, Teri Thornton, Charli Persip, Jaki Byard, Joe McMahon, DIVA and many others. She has been a jazz soloist with the National Symphony, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the New York Pops, and many other ensembles and big bands. She is Musical Director of the dance show Beauteez 'N The Beat, and author of the books Practice Like The Pros, Step One: Play Clarinet, and Step One: Play Saxophone. Her recording Pink Slimy Worm on Qi Note Records features her compositions and improvisations for solo saxophone.
