Matthew Cameron has, in the words of music writer Michel Le Naour, distinguished himself as a figure of "profound musical consciousness", and as one of the major pianistic talents of his generation. His playing has been called "passionate and poetic" and "masterful" by critics, and the legendary Cyprien Katsaris lauded his transcriptions and compositions as "works of genius".

Published worldwide by IMC and G. Schirmer Editions are his arrangements of Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik", Liszt's "Les Preludes", and the Adagio from Khachaturian's "Spartacus". They have been heard in the concert halls of New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo, recorded by Cyprien Katsaris on the Piano21 label, and by Cameron himself. He often programs original works such as his "Etudes in the Romantic Style", "Elegy", "Ballade" "Etude d'apres Rimsky-Korsakov sur Le Vol du Bourdon" and numerous other pieces. Mr. Cameron recently published a volume of selected original works.
Cameron made his Carnegie Hall debut to a sold-out audience in September 2008. Other performances include having given the world-premier of the recently-discovered "Konzertstueck for Piano and Orchestra" by Chopin's student Carl Filtsch, the twenty-four Chopin Etudes at the Summit Music Festival, programming his original works for the Nyack Recital Series, and premiering his own transcription of Liszt's "Les Preludes" at New York's Steinway Hall, described as "brilliantly effective" (Timothy Gilligan, New York Concert Review). Other performances include numerous solo appearances on WQXR's "Reflections from the Keyboard" and a live performance/interview for WNYC's "Around New York" program.
He received the American Liszt Society award as a winner of the International Franz Liszt Competition held in Los Angeles, where he performed the Beethoven-Liszt "Eroica" Symphony. His "Music of Liszt" album is available through cdbaby.com, and contains among other works the "Don Juan Fantasy", "Funerailles", and Cameron's transcriptions of the symphonic poems "Les Preludes" and "Hunnenschlacht".
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, his talent was evident at age 3, when he was able to pick out melodies on the piano by ear with perfect accuracy. Shortly afterward he began composing his earliest pieces, displaying the most natural technique and memory. His early studies were with Agustin Anievas and Jenny David in Brooklyn, and later musical training was with Efrem Briskin.
