Praised as a "polished soloist with effortless, understated virtuosity" by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Christopher Martin holds the Adolph Herseth Principal Trumpet chair of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He comes to the CSO after five years as Principal of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Prior to this, Mr. Martin was Associate Principal of The Philadelphia Orchestra for three seasons. As soloist, Christopher has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, the national champion Katsushika Wind Orchestra from Tokyo, Japan, the University of Arkansas Wind Ensemble, and several times at the renowned Midwest Band Clinic in Chicago. First inspired in his love of brass by his band- & drum and bugle corps-directing father, Freddy Martin, Christopher has performed as Principal Trumpet with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, Grand Teton Music Festival, and Saito Kinen Festival in Matsumoto, Japan. Christopher can be heard on recordings with the ASO on the Telarc label and has served on the faculties of Emory University in Atlanta and Temple University in Philadelphia. Christopher received his Bachelor's degree from the Eastman School of Music under the instruction of professors Charles Geyer and Barbara Butler.
